Product Specification Controller
The Product Specification Controller is a technical role within the R&D function, responsible for the end-to-end management of product specifications throughout the product lifecycle — from development and customer submission through to ongoing regulatory compliance and supplier qualification. The role acts as the primary technical custodian of product documentation, ensuring that all specifications for cans and ends are accurate, compliant with international standards, and aligned with both CROWN's internal quality requirements and customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Product Specification Development & Customer Submission
Develop, control, issue, and submit can and end product specifications to customers in accordance with CROWN's documentation standards and agreed timelines.
Manage specification version control and ensure all revisions are properly authorized, communicated, and archived.
Serve as the technical point of contact for customer inquiries related to product specifications and technical data sheets.
2. Regulatory Compliance & Material Compliance Management
Continuously monitor developments in international food contact material regulations (e.g., EU Regulation No. 10/2011, FDA 21 CFR, and other market-specific standards) and assess their impact on existing and new product specifications.
Update material compliance documentation in a timely manner to reflect regulatory changes, ensuring full traceability of compliance status across the product portfolio.
Support R&D projects by providing regulatory input during the new product development (NPD) process.
3. Outsource Supplier Product Qualification
Design and execute qualification protocols for products sourced from third-party suppliers, validating that outsourced components meet CROWN's technical standards and customer-specified requirements.
Maintain comprehensive qualification records and coordinate corrective actions where supplier products fail to meet defined acceptance criteria.
4. Sub-Standard Product Testing & Evaluation
Plan and conduct structured testing and technical evaluation of non-conforming or sub-standard products to determine fitness for intended use.
Prepare formal evaluation reports with clear technical rationale and disposition recommendations, and present findings to relevant cross-functional stakeholders.
5. Regulatory Intelligence & Documentation Revision
Establish and maintain a systematic process for the collection, review, and archiving of domestic and international packaging regulations relevant to CROWN's product portfolio.
Proactively disseminate regulatory updates within the R&D function and to relevant business units to ensure timely compliance response.
6. Other Duties
Support R&D initiatives, internal projects, and continuous improvement activities as directed by the line manager.
Perform additional duties commensurate with the level and scope of this position.
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor's degree or higher in Food Science, Polymer Science, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline
Minimum 2 years of experience in R&D, product specification management, or regulatory affairs within a packaging or food manufacturing environment
Sound knowledge of international food contact material regulations and compliance frameworks
Experience with product qualification processes and supplier technical assessment
Strong technical writing skills; proficient in English for specification documentation and customer-facing communication
Analytical mindset with high attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Familiarity with Food Safety / ISO quality management systems is an advantage
