The Thai Ruamkamlarp Group began to set up sugar factories after the end of World War II when there was a shortage of sugarin Thailand. The Government at that time tackled the problem by encouraging private entrepreneurs to set up sugar factories. But they faced the problem of very expensive equipment and parts which had to be imported from abroad. Mr. Suree Asdathorn, the founderof Thai Ruamkamlarp Group, joined hands with some associates to set up the first sugar factory -- Ruamkamlarp Sugar Factory -- on 7 May 1946 with a registered capital of 450,000 baht. Using his lathing skill, he conducted experiments and invented various partsby himself without the need to order them from abroad.
