Perusahan Otomobil Nasional Berhad (PROTON) was incorporated in Malaysia on May 7, 1983 to manufacture, assemble and sell motor vehicles.PROTON produced Malaysia's first car, the Proton Saga, commercially launched on July 9, 1985 by then Malaysian Prime Minister, Tun Mahathir Mohamed,who had originally conceived the idea of a Malaysian car.Since its inception, PROTON has become a key driver of national development as it paves the way forward with technology transfer, strategic partnershipsand technical collaborations.Today, with the collaboration of our strategic partner, Geely, PROTON continues to design and build cars as it helps shape the landscape of Malaysia’sautomotive industry, while it aims to grow big internationally and regionally in ASEAN.
