Job summary

Lab Assistant performs lab activities and other tasks as necessary in a typical laboratory and greenhouse environments under the supervision of the Lab Manager. This position involves training and assignment to a variety of jobs for conducting routine tasks and experiments in plant tissue culture, cell biology and biotechnology techniques. Rationale, prudence, accuracy and background in plant biology are essential in performing the experiments, documenting observations and measurements, reporting results, conclusions and presentations. S/he may be responsible for ordering the lab supplies, maintaining equipment, cleaning, disinfecting and generally ensuring the smooth running of the facilities.

Essential responsibilities

• Carry out research, hypothesis testing, biological analysis, data collection and summary and result interpretation using descriptive statistics under the supervision of Lab Manager and Senior Scientists
• Perform literature searches and data investigations as they relate to the research and/or as assigned
• Plan and undertake the experiments, trials and data analysis in the controlled lab-based environment, greenhouse and field
• Record observations accurately, report results and present the work
• Due to the dynamic environment in which research exists, must show flexibility in performing principal duties, creativity and responsibilities as research projects evolve
• Organize and maintain laboratory logs to track samples/specimens, and lab inventory
• Keep up to date with relevant scientific and technical developments
• Troubleshoot the experiments and common laboratory problems
• Any other reasonable duties, as required

Qualifications and personal requirements

• Minimum M.Sc. in Plant Biology, Plant Biotechnology, Agriculture or a related scientific field required
• 1 year of related work experience and the skills in plant tissue culture-based techniques required
• Interest and knowledge in plant biology, plant biotechnology and/or agricultural research for plant breeding and crop improvement with the ability to navigate and assemble the information
• Familiarity with basic lab tools, equipment, computers (databases, spreadsheets, statistics, presentation slides), scientific procedures and result presentation
• English language skills preferred
• Good eyesight, good hand-eye coordination, detail-oriented, accuracy and habit of cleanliness
• Good attitude, logical mind and being a team player
• Must have Thai nationality
• Ability to relocate to Chiang Mai
