HEALTH RESEARCH AND ETHICS INTEREST GROUP, BANGKOK
The Mahidol Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit (MORU) are seeking 5-7 volunteers to be members of a Health Research and Ethics Interest Group. The appointment will be for two years in the first instance (September 2019-August 2021).
MORU is a collaboration between University of Oxford and Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University. MORU’s research portfolio covers a wide range of disease areas, with core expertise in clinical research on tropical diseases such as malaria, as well as maternal and child health.
Role of the Health Research Interest Group
- To provide advice to MORU researchers on ethical and practical aspects of our research projects
- To provide ideas for how to involve members of the public in our research
- To promote MORU’s public engagement activities e.g. Pint of Science talks
Applicant criteria:
- Fluent in Thai and English
- Above 18 years old
- Have an interest in health research or science (a science degree is not essential)
- Residence in the Bangkok metropolitan area
- Able to attend 4-6 half-day meetings a year (meetings are likely to be held in the evenings or weekends in central Bangkok) and skype meetings from time to time
- This is a voluntary role. Token of appreciation will be provided for each meeting (1,000 baht).

Mahidol-Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit (MORU) is a medical research collaboration between the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, the University of Oxford, and the Wellcome Trust (UK). Our main research interests are the epidemiology, diagnosis, pathophysiology and treatment of malaria, scrub typhus, melioidosis, leptospirosis and other tropical infections which impose a substantial disease burden on rural populations throughout this populous region. MORU is looking for enthusiastic people to join our team.
