PanAust Limited is an Australian-headquartered copper and gold producer in Laos, with pre-development and exploration assets in Laos, Myanmar and Papua New Guinea (PNG). The Company is focused on a sustainable business model associated with the production and sale of copper and gold, delivery of production goals and growth.
Phu Bia Mining’s producing assets are the Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation and the Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation, both located in the Company’s 2,600 square-kilometre contract area. The company has a Mineral Exploration and Production Agreement (MEPA) with the Government of Laos which regulates exploration, development and mining activities within the Contract Area, and sets out the Company’s tax and royalty obligations.

Reporting to the Senior Superintendent Sourcing, the key objective of the Strategic Sourcing Superintendent role is to lead the Category Management team and be responsible for the management and execution of goods and service contracts with both local and international suppliers. This includes:
  • Developing strategies, negotiating and establishing commercial agreements with suppliers and service providers to achieve corporate and operational objectives
  • Planning, developing and implementing new sourcing opportunities via China
  • Utilising and maintaining the Contracts Management System (SAP-Ariba) and ensuring SAP-Ariba reflects the status of contracts
  • Ensuring goods and services procurement is executed ethically and efficiently in accordance with the Group Supply Policy and the PanAust Way and the best commercial outcomes are achieved for PanAust at every opportunity.
  • The responsibility for Strategic Sourcing and Category Management, including Category team management, annual planning, regular reporting, SRM with strategic suppliers while ensuring continuous company stakeholder engagement
  • Acquiring and maintaining an up-to-date working knowledge of industry trends, market conditions and price projections locally and internationally
  • Engaging with external and internal stakeholders on behalf of the company to scope projects and procurement requirements
  • Providing commercial advice on key supply contracts and appropriate financial analysis
  • Conducting pre-qualification assessments on all new goods and service providers
Skills and experience
  • Tertiary qualification in Supply Chain or a related discipline
  • Significant China sourcing experience (Chinese language skills preferred but not mandatory)
  • Significant experience managing Strategic Sourcing and Category Management within a large and complex mining operation
  • International heavy industry experience, ideally in a developing country environment
  • Deep understanding of Contract Management Systems, experience in SAP and SAP-Ariba will be highly regarded
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing innovative and effective international sourcing strategies
  • Strong commitment to training and leading a national workforce
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with significant experience in preparing a variety of complex contractual agreements
