Job Description

1. Mission (global description)

A Project Design engineer is a technical key player in the project team.  He is responsible for the correct design of the solution for our customer, within the budget and deadlines.  He holistically designs biomass energy plants and does the calculations of combustions systems, heat exchangers and auxiliary plant equipment.  Together with the layout designer, he will coordinate and follow up the detailed design of the project.  Functionally he reports to the project manager. 

2. Responsibilities (permanent)


  • Energy balance calculations in order to meet the contract requirements
  • Calculations for completing the energy plant: pumps, fans, emission reduction equipment, …
  • Checking/reviewing of subcontracted strength calculations on boiler parts/adiabatic components/piping flexibility calculations
  • Defining the loads on the steel structure and follow-up of the steel structure cal-culations


  • Project overall technical responsible.  Transferring the energy balance calcula-tion into a holistically designed plant layout
  • Creating of the process and instruction diagram (P&ID) and component list (to-gether with the control & automation engineer and the project manager)
  • Checking the budget consequences of the design decisions
  • Releasing of datasheets and construction drawings Creating design rules accord-ing the TPM reports or global needs
  • Creating calculation templates for global needs

Teamwork & support

  • Frequently communicating and consulting with the project manager, client, LDE, MDE and subcontractors
  • Supporting the project manager on technical meetings with the client and subcon-tractors
  • Discussing the design control check list with the PFE before starting up the energy plant
  • Support sales for new upcoming projects
  • Support the project buyer for technical evaluation of new suppliers and subcon-tractors


  • Registering accurately spent hours in IFS
  • Support for specific parts of the instruction manual
  • Creating documents related to the certification of the energy plant (pressure equipment directive(PED), CE-certification, …

3. Competences

3.1 Knowledge


  • Master Degree in thermal engineering, thermal and power engineering, heating and ventilation, refrigeration or near area
Required experience
  • Experience with thermodynamics, stress calculations and component design is a must
  • Experience in boiler construction codes or piping design is an asset
  • Minimum the local language and fluent English, both written and spoken.
