Job Description

Role and Responsibilities

The Performance Marketing Manager is primarily responsible for the management of digital accounts and diversifying the channel mix using paid social channels. He/ She will focus on campaign-specific results and drives the marketing department’s commercial performance.

The key tasks the performance manager will be responsible for are:

  • Drive campaigns from planning to execution and beyond to meet key performance metrics
  • Constantly optimize marketing activities to improve return on investment
  • Allocate budgets and analyze and recommend modifications to ad spends
  • Collaborate with marketing teams to guide A/B creative tests, incrementality tests, and spend scaling tests on campaigns online and offline to identify what works best
  • Test new channels and trends (such as voice search, Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, Digital Out of Home, etc.)
  • Optimize marketing budgets to maximize Cost per Acquisition (CPA) and efficiently scale new customers
  • Develops digital marketing strategy by studying economic indicators, tracking changes in supply and demand, identifying customers and their current and future needs, and monitoring the competition.
  • Plans and executes all web, SEO/SEM, database marketing, email, social media, and display advertising campaigns.
  • Designs, builds and maintains our social media presence.
  • Contributes to marketing effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range issues that must be addressed.
  • Measures and reports performance of all digital marketing campaigns and assesses against goals (ROI and KPIs).
  • Identifies trends and insights, and optimizes spend and performance based on the insights.
  • Brainstorms new and creative growth strategies through digital marketing.
  • Plans executes, and measures experiments and conversion tests.
  • Collaborates with internal teams to create landing pages and optimize user experience.
  • Utilizes strong analytical ability to evaluate end-to-end customer experience across multiple channels and customer touchpoints.
  • Identifies critical conversion points and drop off points and optimizes user funnels.
  • Completes digital marketing department operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees and following up on work results.
  • Maintains digital marketing staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.
  • Maintains digital marketing staff job results by counseling and disciplining employees; and planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
  • Develops digital marketing staff by providing information, educational opportunities, and experiential growth opportunities.
  • Any other tasks assigned by the direct manager and/or CEO

Key areas required for the position:

  • Analytical

o   Strong analytical skills and a data-driven approach to problem-solving is a must for this role. The performance marketing manager needs to adopt a methodical approach while analyzing statistics and should be able to glean insights to make campaign recommendations.

o   An analytical mindset will also help collect and examine consumer insights to help develop creative marketing acquisition tactics. The ability to understand and monitor web analytics dashboards and reporting tools is expected as these tools will help to maintain and monitor reports, budgets, campaign performance, ROI, and channel metrics.

o   Customer analysis and survey development will be key for this position in order to assess success of tests as well as understand consumers better to optimize ad performance

  • Strategic: The Performance Marketing Manager position involves responsibility for the strategic direction of various marketing channels. This includes:

o   Setting up, managing, and optimizing campaigns to display ads and retarget them across verticals, such as SEM, display advertising, social media, affiliate marketing, content discovery platforms

o   Source and implement the most effective keywords, measure keyword performance and optimize campaigns based on them.

o   Tweak strategies by evaluating the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of all existing marketing channels to determine and make necessary adjustments to optimize marketing effectiveness.

o   Understand  products inside out. Research competitors and their strategies to find the gaps in the industry and accordingly set up marketing and advertising goals for the brand.

o   Manage ad placements, target the relevant interests and topics and use Google’s in-market audiences for search ads.

o   Use multi-touch attribution to track touchpoints across the funnel, which will help maximize Pay-Per-Click (PPC) campaign effectiveness.

o   Develop hypotheses and perform A/B (or multivariate) testing to recommend optimizations

o   Leverage customer insights to better segment, target and reach potential customers

o   Explore new marketing opportunities such as social media channels, apps, ad formats, etc.

  • Decision Making :

o   Set acquisition and growth targets for marketing teams spread across offline and online channels such as social, search, paid search, mobile, display, etc.

o   Allocate and modify budgets for efficient spending

o   Tweak strategies and budgets based on current performance to maximize ROI

o   Direct and manage agency performance on various channels to achieve goals and ROI targets

o   Scope out and identify new platforms, tools and systems to improve performance

o   Identify pain points to creatively improve non-performing areas

  • Technical:

o   Analytics and database tools such as Excel, Google Analytics, Tableau, , etc. and performance marketing platforms, such as HubSpot

o   Knowledge and prior usage of tools like Facebook Ad Manager, AdWords,

o   Exposure to data visualization and reporting tools, such as Tableau, is a plus

o   Keeping abreast of emerging technologies and developments in the digital industry

o   Experience with Google Adwords is a must

  • Collaborative

o   Set proper communication channels and reporting with the entire team

o   Collaborate on projects with customer facing staff to give and get feedback

o   Collaborate within and between departments

o   Coordinate with online vendors and outsourced agencies

o   Report to senior management

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in marketing or a related field
  • Proven working experience in digital marketing, particularly within the industry
  • Demonstrable experience leading and managing SEO/SEM, marketing database, email, social media, and/or display advertising campaigns
  • Experience in optimizing landing pages and user funnels
  • Experience with A/B and multivariate experiments
  • Solid knowledge of website and marketing analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, NetInsight, Omniture, WebTrends, SEMRush, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of ad serving tools
  • Experience in setting up and optimizing PPC campaigns on all major search engines
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript development and constraints
