Looking back at the mind through the passing days

Do you know the voice in your mind?

Quiet or loud, have you ever heard it?

Even though there are 365 days in a year, what we normally hear from most people is time really flies. It passes without us knowing it. Not before long, it's that time we shop for gifts for the holiday season again.

What have we done so far in a year? What have we achieved? What kind of mistakes have we committed? Take a few moments to think about it – see through the inside - look inside your mind and take this chance to make improvement. Make the coming year a brighter and better one!

Quiet mind, loud mind

  • More bonus!
  • Higher salary!
  • Higher position!
  • Better than others!
  • A house. A car. More money!

This is the loud mind shouting. It is restless and full with stress, jealousy and imagination. The mind screams with desire and want. This is the reason why one becomes highly under stress. The mind is full with hatred and dissatisfaction, but most important of all, it has become biased and blameful. Nobody knows how long we have been under the power of desire. Nobody realizes how tired we have become chasing these wants.

Why not change it? Let's make the mind calm and quiet. It is a key element for one to live peacefully and happily. Quiet mind is the opposite of loud mind. It is not biased and stops blaming everything else. The mind stays sharp and only thinks of something worth thinking – something useful to the work, society and the world. Having a quiet mind is not difficult if you try. It begins with looking at yourself, being with yourself. The more you talk, the less the mind stays calm. It goes up and down according to the mood when talking. In other words, it becomes more difficult for the mind to stay calm and peaceful when talking or interacting. A quiet mind is more focused. In a meeting, where people exchange different opinions, one normally concentrates on searching for a good reason to back up his views. This creates an obstacle that hinders one to understand all sides of the matter. This is why people quarrel. A good example of this is when people at a meeting looking at a flower vase. The people surround the vase seeing it at a different angle. Each sees his side of the vase but not the other. Though they are talking about the same thing, the quarrel can be endless because no one is willing to listen. This is why it is important for one to open his mind and try to see things from other perspectives. The key to this is to maintain a quiet mind. When the mind shuts its door to quarreling, one can easily understand or perhaps appreciate the matter from every perspective even if he can actually see it from one angle. The result is complete puzzles – an overall picture that makes sense. When the mind is free from biases, the picture becomes clear.

Train the mind to be calm by separating the mind from the body. Life comprises the body and mind. Separating the mind from the body leaves the mind free of all physical entanglements – free from emotions, biases, imagination and misunderstanding. This can be done anywhere. Anybody can benefit from this method especially the working professionals. Physically separating oneself from the surrounding may be difficult to do when one is working but separating the mind from the body provides the same result but unnoticeably to others. How to begin is not complicated. One can choose to train his mind at the comfort of his home because all one needs is time.

Take 5-10 minutes perhaps in the morning to look at your mind – keep it free from disorganized thoughts and imaginations. Increase the time you spend to 10-30 minutes and perhaps do it before going to bed too. This short session will help you establish a habit of lessening your attachment to the tempting elements – reducing your determination to see things your way and not judging things by hatred.

The calmed mind produces work efficiency. The quality will evidently increase no matter what you do. Even though the body moves around in a crowded environment, the mind stays focused, while analyzing things carefully without any influence of bias.

Say goodbye to the year with a glow of wit.

Training the mind can be difficult or easy depending on how each person trains himself. The result does not only help improve the quality of work but also keeps the mind healthy and happy. A quiet mind gives a better picture because one already realizes the truth without any contamination. It is like being in a dark room. An imagination can turn this dark room into a horrible scene with snake or some scary creature hiding in the dark. But with just a dim light from a candle, things can change. One can see that the room is empty. There is no poisonous snake, nor horrible creature. The light helps us see the truth.

We are now on our last 30 days of the year 2004. This is a good time for all of us to start looking at our mind. It is time to make our mind quite. Let us train our mind to understand truth. Aren't we all sad because we are not getting all that we want? Aren't we all sad because of our desire and hatred? We suffer because we fall for some kind of illusion. It is time to wake up and make ourselves happy and free.

May all of you benefit from the awakened and happy mind and welcome the New Year with joy.
