A job interview can provoke anxiety. There is often so much on the line. Try some of these suggestions for relieving interview stress.

Step One

Visit the interview site a day or two before. This way, you will know where you are going and won't get lost on interview day. It can also make you feel more comfortable with the company when you arrive knowing where everything is. Note the location of the restrooms in case you have to freshen before the meeting.

Step Two

Research the company as much as you can and have all your past work experience facts straight. The more prepared you are for your job interview, the less anxiety you will have. Practice a mock interview with a friend or a family member, so you can get used to the interview questions. This can also help if it has been a long time since you have done an interview.

Step Three

Keep your expectation levels to a realistic level. If you expect too much from your job interview, you might leave feeling disappointed. If you go in with a negative attitude and no expectations, it could be harmful too. Remind yourself about the position and what you will be able to offer the company. Just be yourself and do the best you can.

Step Four

If you can, go to the gym, or exercise before you go to an interview. Make sure you have enough time to shower, get dressed and get to your interview. Exercise can clear your mind and reduce your anxiety.

Step Five

Lay out your clothes for the interview including tie clasps, cufflinks, brooches and any jewelry. Make sure each item is cleaned and pressed and that your shoes are polished. Clip your nails before going to bed. Attending to fashion details at the last minute can stress you.

Step Six

Bring a cell phone. If something delays your arrival, you can phone the company and explain while you'll be late.
